Scroll down to see a short slideshow about the process of making a PMC piece.
PMC (Precious Metal Clay) is a medium in which fine silver particles are suspended in an organic
binder. It can be worked much like any other clay. Once it has been dried, it is fired at a high
heat. The binder is burned away and the silver particles fuse to each other, so the final product
is a piece of fine silver, or .999 silver. After firing, PMC is like any other metal and can be filed,
polished, etc. I have added copper and bronze clay to my repertoire as well and will be
incorporating it into my jewelry.
I first used Precious Metal Clay (PMC) at the Bead and Button Show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in
2007 and fell in love with it. I received my Rio Rewards PMC Certification in March of 2009. Click
here for more on my certification experience and the pieces I made during my class. I teach
classes in PMC around Maine. See my schedule page for a list of classes. I am now offering
classes and open studio hours in my studio. Click here for more information. If you are
interested in having me teach a class or if you would like to discuss private lessons, please feel
free to contact me.
A short (non-video) pictoral on the process of making a PMC Piece can be seen here on my blog.
