This was our first project in the certification class. It's purpose was to
learn coreless hollowform beads. We had to make a saucer bead, but
the ornamentation was up to us. Coming up with design ideas on the
spot like that is difficult for me, but I finally decided to carve a spider web
into it and add a spider on one side. The bead is about 3/4 inch in
diameter.
I used liver of sulphur to put a patina on the bead in order to accentuate
the web. I had an idea of how I wanted it to look, but instead of a dark
black web, it turned shades of blues, greens and purples. These are
colors I had never been able to get with my liver of sulphur at home, and
so I kept them, polishing the high points so the patina remained only in
the depressions and on the spider. I left the patina on the back and
hopefully the colors will show in the photos.
